What is the ESC program? What am I doing in Poland?

First of all, I want to talk to you a little bit about this program. European Solıdarity Corps (ESC) is a Programme funded by European Commission which allows youngsters aged (18–30 years) to become a volunteer in another country for a specified period of time, usually between 2–12 months. These projects offer an inspiring and empowering experience, as well as the chance to bring change while developing your skills and competences.

My program is in Poland and since I chose the long-term program, I will volunteer here for 1 year. I have been working with low-budget families and children with psychological problems at the youth center for 3 months. Now I want to tell you about the activities we have done in the past 3 months on this blog.

These photos are from a theater we were a part of with the children in the first months of the program. We designed, painted and created the theater's clothing and decorations together.

I usually do activities with children actively every Monday. These activities are related to psychology and special education. Sometimes there may be communication problems and misunderstanding between children, and for such problems, I teach them what empathy is, how to empathize and how to solve problems with games and activities. At the end of each psychological activity, we do paper craft activities to entertain them.

Before each holiday, we decorate the center with our own handicrafts together with the children. These holidays, which are accompanied by games and music, are always very entertaining and interesting. We've been together on this and many other activities and holidays in 3 months, and I have 9 months ahead of me that can do more than that. Now I want to write about one of the main issues.

Why choose these programs and what will benefit you?
First of all, there are many benefits of being in another country. The first of these is about finding and re-creating yourself away from everyone. At least that's how it was for me. Other benefits are that you have the chance to improve your English and even learn the language of the country you come from. You can make new friends and new social circles while you are here. The most important thing is to see how it is useful and helpful to people. If you want to participate in such a program and be a part of this process, the link below will help you.
